TOPEKA – Washburn University students who might not qualify for merit-based scholarships will now have a new opportunity for scholarship support thanks to a $100,000 donation by the Goppert Foundation in Kansas City.“This gift creates an endowed fund to support scholarships for full-time undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need who do not qualify for merit-based scholarships,” said JuliAnn Mazachek, president of the Washburn Endowment Association.
This gift is one of many the Goppert Foundation has made to universities and other organizations in Kansas and Missouri. Launched in 1960 through the estate of Clarence H. Goppert, the foundation’s core mission is to give back to those Kansas and Missouri communities who helped make Goppert-owned banks successful.“We are very grateful to the Goppert Foundation for this gift,” said Jerry Farley, president of Washburn University. “It is an honor to receive such a gift and we look forward to the benefits it will bring to students struggling to pay for college.”
