Wichita Area Technical College

The mission of general education core curriculum is to provide a framework of higher education that enables students to develop through knowledge and to succeed in the global society. The general education core curriculum is designed to provide opportunities for students to explore broad areas of common knowledge, intellectual concepts and attitudes. General Education courses may also apply to degrees earned at other colleges and universities.Unlike the 20th century and the era of the industrial revolution, 21st century jobs and the technological revolution require a higher level of skills. Whatever the goal — English language skills, math skills, reading skills, writing skills, job readiness skills, citizenship skills, a high school diploma, training or college — the Adult Literacy division assists every step of the way — from pre-assessment, to instruction, to post-assessment, to completion.Adult Literacy provides a state-approved, quality basic education program for the residents of Wichita and surrounding areas whose goals are to acquire the necessary workforce skills or to enhance their skills.

Bridging the digital divide is essential to fully participate in the workforce of the 21st century. The adult literacy program has a state-of-the-art technology lab and stan-alone computers in each classroom at the main site. All computers are equipped with current software. All program sites provide a technology curriculum that facilitates the acquisition of skills, which the Kansas Board of Regents has identified as essential. Take that first step toward your second chance now. Classes are offered mornings, afternoons and evenings in various locations throughout the city.
