West Bengal enacts tougher criteria for management quota seats in Engineering

West Bengal state announced that it will enact tougher criteria for students seeking admission into its private engineering colleges under the management quota. Per the new guidelines communicated by an official at the higher education department, students must now score atleast 50 percent in Math, Physics, Chemistry during thier 10 plus 2 exams and rank 60,000 or better in the state jee or rank five lakh or better in the AIEEE entrance examination to qualify.

In west bengal, private engineering colleges are allowed to fill up to 10 percent of seats through management quota cost of which varies from 2 lacs to 10 lacs depending on the degree pursued. Under the previous criteria, students admitted through the management quota could also skip the counselling session.

West Bengal State government is proposing the new criteria to improve the standard of education in private engineering colleges since a review of the past years indicated a drop in standards at private institutions where admissions were allowed for students with very low marks in the board exams against a hefty management donation.
